We are conveniently located " on the common " in the historic and picturesque town of Chester, Vermont. Opened in August 2014, The Free Range provides an interesting and diverse offering of appetizers, soups, salads, sandwiches and dinner entrees. Each menu item is carefully prepared daily in our state-of-the-art kitchen; from our local grass fed burgers, to our slow braised short ribs. We do our best to use locally sourced products such as fresh breads, meats and produce to other local favorites like maple syrup and apple cider.
Our renowned Executive Chef and Managing Partner Jason Tostrup brings a unique and creative approach to seasonal cooking. Chef Jason has won numerous awards, including Vermont Chef of the Year. He has been recognized by Bon Appetit Magazine and Foder's Travel Guide, and appeared with Emeril Lagasse on his show "Emeril Green". Chef Jason started his culinary journey working under celebrity chef Charles Dale at Renaissance in Aspen, Colorado, and went on to work at Thomas Keller's Bistro Bouchon in Napa, California. Chef Jason's approach is simple: "Food should be fun".
The Free Range has an extensive and diverse wine list offering 20 different wines by the glass, Vermont craft beers on tap, hand crafted specialty cocktails, and Espresso, Cappuccino and Latte drinks.
